A high number of femicides in Peru: Interview with Wilson Hernández on Radio Programas del Perú

“It is not good enough to know the norms, but if I am going to assign a policeman, a judge or a prosecutor to address the case of a woman who suffered violence, this cannot be sexist or have stereotypes”. A few days before the end of 2019, Wilson Hernández, Associated Researcher at GRADE, was interviewed in a radio program which addressed the high number of femicides in our country.

He also drew attention to the fact that despite that the two main problems of the country are citizen insecurity and violence against women, the Ministry of Interior and the National Police of Peru have a bureau for the former, but not for the latter. Therefore, we are “not up to the decisions, level of budget and command that these two institutions must have to address the issue.”

Wilson is the editor of the book “Violencia contra las Mujeres: la necesidad de un doble plural”, which can be downloaded without charge.
