Andrea Román (she) is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Toronto and a Vanier CGS fellow from the Canadian goverment. She holds a master in Sociology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and a degree in Sociology from Skidmore College, United States. She has been a professor at the University of Toronto, the University of the Pacific and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, as well as a researcher in GRADE and the Institute for Peruvian Studies.

Her research areas are sociology of violence, gender, criminality, incarceration and qualitative methodologies. Andrea has worked and published on issues related to education, gender equality in the academic world and the incarceration of young Latinas in the US. Currently, she is working on projects and publications related to the experience of violence against indigenous women in Tkaronto (Toronto) and drivers associated with the incarceration of women in Peru. Her doctoral dissertation analyzes the experiences of violence against women living in human settlements, with the aim of understanding the links between different types of violence and the effects of violence on individuals and communities.
