Presentation

In the next 18 months, the group will: conduct 4 studies that (1) monitor and analyze national assessment and standards-setting processes in Latin America, (2) analyze the national policy implications of the 2006 results of the Second Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (SERCE) and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), (3) study the extent to which international student achievement tests fit the needs and contexts of countries with different levels of educational development in Latin America, and (4) evaluate the quality, usefulness, and accessibility of national assessment system databases available on ministry of education web pages.

The group will also organize a series of seminars, workshops and meetings in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Peru in order to support continuity and further strengthening of emerging standards and assessment policies and institutions; support efforts by the Peruvian government to develop standards for primary education; prepare 4 working papers, 1 policy brief, 18 editions of the group’s monthly electronic newsletter, and provide materials on GTEE topics to support PREAL’s one-page education synopsis series; maintain and improve its webpage and electronic communication with network members; and establish greater inter-institutional relations to diversify its membership.
