Presentation

The socioeconomic study of the feasibility of the alternative of the river connection between Boca Manu and Boca Colorado (Madre de Dios Region), is carried out in agreement with the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), and aims to characterize the social and economic conditions of the local communities along the route between the Boca Manu and Boca Colorado population centers, and to identify opportunities for improvement for a reform of the river navigation services in the study area. This, as a complement to the research carried out in 2021, which showed the negative result of the economic-financial analysis of the road project.

The study will combine the review and systematization of secondary sources with the collection of primary information through field work. Thus, after the review, analysis and systematization of specialized bibliography and, to the extent that the availability of information allows it, with the review of experiences of implementation of river transport projects in the Amazon region, to then collect information in the field, including the daily registration of the flow of boats, as well as interviews to key actors and group workshops. The development of these last two activities will address the following topics: socioeconomic characteristics, means of transport, boats, pilots and crew, ports, and signaling and other transport facilities.
