Zegara, E. (2019). Auge agroexportador en el Perú: un análisis de sobrevivencia de productos y empresas (Informe final). Lima: CIES.

This study presents a survival analysis for products and firms in the agroexport boom of Peru in the last three decades.  The main goal is to identify explanatory factors which can be useful for public policies. The findings support strategies of scaling up and diversifying export markets, with a promotion role for the State in reducing sunk costs for exports.  There are some variation in the survival of products in some markets like USA, Germany, UK, Spain and China.  In the case of firms, scale is also important and the firm’s organization as well. For instance, cooperatives show high survival capacity in traditional products like coffee and bananas. An important discovery of the study is that firms located in areas with increasing agriculture female labor participation show higher rates of survival.
