On the sidelines of the United Nations High-level Political Forum 2019, the United Nation Office for South-South Cooperation and the United Nations Development Program held the South-South Thinkers Dialogue on July 17 in New York, USA.

The meeting reflected on the outcome document of the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA +40), which took place in March 2019, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

As a result of BAPA +40, an action plan was adopted to promote and implement technical cooperation among developing countries. The general theme of the conference was the “Role of South-South Cooperation and the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities”. The outcome document acknowledged the contribution of think tanks and research centers in improving South-South and triangular cooperation practices and called on United Nations entities to continue advocating and supporting these organizations in order to better understand the role and impact of these practices in successfully implementing the 2030 Agenda.

Our senior researcher, Manuel Glave, and Grupo FARO’s Coordinator of Research and Evaluation, Andrea Villareal, joined the meeting as representatives of the Latin American Research Initiative for Public Policies (ILAIPP).
