Using the conceptual approach of the New Institutional Economics, this paper shows that the characteristics of collective action at the level of district municipalities have an impact on the provision of public services for agriculture. Although the supply of these services faces a variety of problems, the pressure of organised producers, the possibility of having spaces for consultation and the capacity of mayors to dialogue with specialised institutions have an impact on the provision and quality of agricultural services in rural districts in Peru.
