Sánchez, A. y Meléndez, G. (2015). Juventud y desarrollo: resultados iniciales del estudio Niños del Milenio. Cuarta ronda de encuestas en el Perú. Lima: Niños del Milenio; INN; GRADE.

Young adults in the older cohort, at age 19, have reached a stage in life where they face critical choices and decisions. A large proportion of them had already completed school, and many are in post-secondary education. However, considerable gender differences were identified in terms of university education and time use, in favour of men. This is probably partly due to early pregnancies —a quarter of young women are already mothers— but inequalities are also related to the level of household well-being. From a public policy perspective, initiatives to improve educational and employment opportunities for young people should consider gender as a crucial dimension to help equalise educational opportunities and advancement.
