Presentation
This study aims to estimate the price elasticity of the cigarette consumption in Peru, with special emphasis on the analysis of its heterogeneity by gender and age and socio-economical level. It is proposed to use the databases of the surveys applied by DEVIDA to high school students and the population in general; those which have not previously been used for this purpose. This evidence may serve to guide the discussion about the effects of the recent sharp increase in the specific tax on cigarette consumption.
