Presentation

Second phase of the project “New dilemmas in public analysis and follow-up of ethnic inequality in Peru” (project 681) executed by GRADE with the support of the Ford Foundation.

During this phase, studies, seminars and incidence activities will be carried out to improve ethnic indicators in surveys and in the future census. A study will be performed by Nestor Valdivia, GRADE associate researcher, to validate the ethnic self-identification question for African-Peruvian people. A paper-balance on discrimination will be developed to analyze ENAHO 2012, as well as another document on the relation between objective and subjective criteria for indigenous identification, making use of the ENAHO survey that includes a question on ethnic belonging.  Furthermore, a specialized survey for Afro-descendant people that will be applied during 2013, and which GRADE is helping to design, will be analyzed.

Along this line, during 2013 a regional seminar on census will be coordinated, to be held in Bogota.  Each study will start with an introductory seminar. The project website will be launched soon.
