Presentation

The study will contain a thorough plan for the prospective assessment of the Project “Expansion of rural micro financing services for people with low income through community banking in Paraguay”, financed by the Multilateral Investments Fund (FOMIN) and developed by Financiera El Comercio (FIELCO).  The project expects to provide support the creation of 2470 community banks, to reach approximately 35,000 persons. Each group (community bank) will have 10 to 30 members, mostly women, who will associate to manage themselves a microloan, savings and mutual support system.

The assessment seeks to answer questions such as:  What is the impact of the beneficiaries’ participation in the community banks on the performance of the business? What are the changes registered by the members of the groups in terms of socio-economic conditions and which may be attributed to their participation in the groups? and to what extent does the community banking methodology meet the needs of the project’s client profile?
