GRADE’s International Conference on Territories and Development in Peru was held on 5-6 June, 2018.

In this event we shared the findings of a research program that we have carried out over the last three years, due to the agreement between GRADE and the Think Tank Initiative managed by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Through this research program, GRADE raised the challenge of developing and articulating a set of studies in three key areas: social inclusion, economic opportunities, and environmental sustainability, in a context of climate change. The common axis of these studies, given the challenges of our diversity, is a territorial approach to development, with the aim of stimulating public policies that promote the potential of the diverse territories of our country.

We had two keynote presentations: Julio Berdegué, the Deputy General Director and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, spoke about territories and rural development, and Joan Clos, Former Mayor of Barcelona, Former Minister of the Spanish government and Former Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme – Habitat, spoke about cities and national development.
